White-Rodgers Recalls Home Thermostats Due to Fire Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada has recalled about 180,000 programmable White-Rodgers thermostats in the U.S. The thermostats constantly charge the backup AA batteries used to power the thermostat’s clock. This can cause the batteries to leak, resulting in a fire hazard. There have been three known incidents involving the thermostats causing minor property damage, but no injuries have been reported.
