The body of a newborn baby was found Thursday night in the trunk of a car in Maryland, according to authorities.
A relative was cleaning out the vehicle when the infant was discovered, police said during a press conference on Friday. The four door sedan is owned by a 32-year-old woman and was parked at her mobile home residence in Prince Frederick, Maryland.
Neighbors told WUSA9.com that the car had been parked for weeks without being moved.
“Our hearts go out to the family members that located this infant in the trunk of this vehicle. This is heart wrenching for our community and heart wrenching for law enforcement,” Calvert County Lt. Steve Jones told NBC Washington.
Authorities did not release the age, sex or gender of the child.
