Kindergartner Forced to Sit in Her Diarrhea
A six-year-old student in Missouri was forced to wrap a trash bag around herself and sit in her own diarrhea for more than 15 minutes after being denied a bathroom break, KY3-TV reports.
"They didn't even bother trying to clean her up or anything," her mother Lisa Skidmore told the news station. "She still had poop, diarrhea poop, coming out the back, up her front, down her legs."
The incident happened at Southwest Elementary School in Washburn, Mo. while students were taking part in the Missouri Assessment Program tests; the state standardized testing required by law.
However, the kindergartner was not taking the actual exam - it's not required until the third grade. The girl's teacher was recreating the strict conditions to prepare the students for future testing.
"They told me that the teacher had asked her to go to the restroom before a testing period," said Skidmore. She added that asking a child to go to the bathroom on command, “is next to impossible.”
Superintendent Bob Walker said district officials “regret what happened."
The little girl had to sit in the mess for the 15 minutes remaining of the testing period as well as an additional 20 minutes while her mother drove to school with a change of clothing.
“You can’t do that to a 6-year-old,” Skidmore told the station. “You don’t even treat a dog that way.”
