A New York City man has spent more than $60,000 trying to win custody of his dog after his ex-girlfriend took the puggle to California.
34-year-old Craig Dershowitz has burned through his own savings in a bitter legal battle with former girlfriend Sarah Brega. In papers filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court, he claims she " took unilateral control of Knuckles and kidnapped him" after they broke up.
According to the New York Post, he initially got a default judgment against the wardrobe stylist for the dog’s immediate return, but she retained a lawyer and is fighting him in New York and California courts.
The half-pug, half beagle pup is currently living with Brega on the West Coast, and Dershowitz claims his ex-girlfriend's strategy is to exhaust his financial resources. He's now trying to raise money for his depleted legal fund through a webpage at indiegogo.com/rescueknux. Contributors can get a "Free Knux” T-shirt for a $25 donation, a professional portrait of Knuckles for $200 or a game of fetch with the dog for $250.
As for Dershowitz, he just wants his dog back.
"He snores like an old man. His whole butt wiggles when he wags his tail. He is so loving and sweet and warm. He's incredible," he said in video posted on the site.
