Jimmy Kimmel's Latest Prank: First Look at "iPhone 5"
The whole world watched as Apple debuted the brand-spanking new iPhone 5 yesterday in San Francisco and the tech world is all abuzz with excitement.
Some industry experts got all gushy:
"After years using the 4/4S form factor, I found the weight loss completely surprising, especially given the increased size," wrote Wired's Christina Bonnington.
"The screen is big, bright, and crisp, too, not shockingly so, but a subtly improved experience," said the editors over at CNET.
almost everyone else in the world many others were left a little cold by what seems like a pretty boring and marginal update to the iPhone 4S.
Or as one commenter put it,
"This is totally underwhelming, I was hoping Apple had something amazing up their sleeve to justify their inflated opinion of themselves."
In light of the debate, Jimmy Kimmel decided to run a little social experiment. Remember, the iPhone 5 is not yet available (it starts shipping on September 21) - so Kimmel took an iPhone 4S around the streets of Los Angeles, asking people what they thought of the new "iPhone 5."
The results? Chalk up another win for the placebo effect.
Here are some of the comments:
"Oh, yea, that's definitely noticeably better."
"A lot lighter than the last one."
"Colors are brighter."
