What Time do Polls Close? Your State-by-State Guide for Election Day

November 6th is Election Day, and that means it’s time for you to get out there and rock the vote!

For busy moms, we know it’s difficult to fit an extra errand into your schedule. So to help you out, we’ve put together a complete rundown on what time the polls open and close in your neck of the woods.

Here’s the modern mom’s guide for the 2012 election:

Alabama: Polls are open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Central Time.

Alaska: Polling places are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Alaska Time.

Arizona: All polling places are open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Mountain Time.

Arkansas: all polling places will be open from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm on Election Day. When the polls close, if you are in line, you will be permitted to vote.

California: All polls are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Pacific Time.

Colorado: Polls are open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Mountain Time.

Connecticut: All polling places will be open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Eastern Time on election day.

Delaware: Polls are open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, Eastern Time. If you are in line waiting to vote at closing time, you may cast your vote even if it is done after 8:00 pm.

Florida: All polls are open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Georgia: Polls are open from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM Eastern Time on Election Day. Any voter who is waiting in line to vote at 7:00 PM will be allowed to vote.

Hawaii: Polls are open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM Hawaii Time.

Idaho: Polls will be open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. In some instances, the Clerk is able to open polling at 7:00 AM.

Illinois: Polls are open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM Central Time.

Indiana: Polls will be open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM Eastern Time.

Iowa: Polls will be open from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM Central time (which is one of the longest poll open and close times in the nation!).

Kansas: Most polls are open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Central Time as Kansas mandates in its state laws that the polls must be open a minimum of twelve (12) hours. Counties may open the polls earlier and close them later.

Kentucky: All polls are open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Central and Eastern Time. All those in line by 6:00 PM will be able to vote.

Louisiana: All polls are open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM Central Time.

Maine: Municipalities with a population less than 500 open between 6 AM and 10 AM while municipalities with a population of 500 or more open between 6 AM and 8AM. All polls close at 8 PM.

Maryland: Polling places are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Eastern Time.

Massachusetts: Most polling places are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. However, municipalities may open as early as 5:45 AM.

Michigan: All polls will be open in the lower and upper peninsulas of Michigan from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Central and Eastern times.

Minnesota: Most polling places are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Central Time. However, some smaller municipalities may open as late as 10:00 AM.

Mississippi: All polling places in Mississippi are open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Central Time.

Missouri: Polling places are open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM Central Time.

Montana: Polling place hours throughout the state vary. Polling places open between 7:00 AM and 12:00 PM and close at 8:00 PM. Contact your local elections official for exact times.

Nebraska: All polling locations will be open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM central time and 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM mountain time.

Nevada: All polling places in Nevada will be open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Pacific Time.

New Hampshire: The polling place hours of operation vary in New Hampshire. In general, polling places open between 6:00 AM and 11:00 AM and close at 7:00 PM or 8:00 PM, Eastern Time. Voters in New Hampsire should contact their municipal clerk’s office for actual polling place times.

New Jersey: All polls are open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time.

New Mexico: All polls will be open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Mountain Time on Election Day.

New York: Polls open at 6:00 AM and close at 9:00 PM.

North Carolina: In North Carolina, the polling places will be open from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM Eastern Time.

North Dakota: Polling locations cannot open earlier than 7:00 AM and must be open by 9:00 AM with the exception of those precincts in which fewer than 75 votes were cast in the last General Election. The governing body of the exempt polling locations may direct the polls to open no later than 12:00 noon. All polling locations must remain open until 7:00 PM and close no later than 9:00 PM.

Ohio: Polling places will be open from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM Eastern Time, however if you are in line at the time of the poll closing at 7:30 PM you will be given the right to vote.

Oklahoma: All polls are open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Central Time.

Oregon: Oregon is an elections by mail state, however a voter can still vote on election day at their local municipal clerks office 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Pacific Time.

Pennsylvania: All polls are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Eastern Time.

Rhode Island: Most polls open at 7:00 AM and all polls close at 8:00 PM.

South Carolina: All polls are open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Eastern Time.

South Dakota: All polls will be open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Any voter at the polling place prior to 7:00 PM is allowed to cast a ballot.

Tennessee: Most polling places are open between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. All precincts close 8:00 PM eastern standard time and 7:00 PM central standard time. The polls must be open a minimum of 10 hours and may be open for a maximum of 13 hours.

Texas: All polling places are open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Central Time.

Utah: All polling places are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Vermont: All polls are open from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Most polls open earlier.

Virginia: Polls are open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Eastern Time.

Washington: Washington is a mail in ballot state and does not have polling places. Your county election officials can provide information about voting centers/election offices.

Washington, D.C.: Polls are open 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

West Virginia: All polling places are open from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM Eastern Time.

Wisconsin: All polls are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Central Time.

Wyoming: All polling places are open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Mountain Time on Election Day.
