Woman Names Her Twins “Barack Obama” and “Mitt Romney”

We’ve heard about twins who were born in separate years, and even one case where twin babies were born in different countries, but what about twins named for heated political rivals?

Two little boys born outside of Nairobi, Kenya won’t have any trouble remembering who faced off in the 2012 United States Presidential election…. because they were named after Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.

Meet Barack and Mitt Owuor:

(At least she wrapped them in blue and white – instead of blue and red!)

Their mother, 20-year-old Millicent Owuor, gave birth to the twins on the day of the election. The hospital where she delivered the babies was only a short distance from Obama family’s ancestral village, where people were celebrating his victory.

“I named the first twin Barack and the second one Mitt,” Owuor is quoted by Reuters news agency as saying.

We just hope the little ones don’t have a sibling rivalry quite as intense as their namesakes’ political opposition!

What are the most unusual twin names you’ve ever heard of? Here are five of the most creative we came across:

1. “”I know twins called Sam and Ella (in that order). I don’t know what their mother was thinking when she called them this.” – Kat, Babycenter

2. Robert and Dylan

3. “Zepplina and Zeppelin” – ModernMom readers

4. “I know twin boys called Jack and Daniel. I think their mum must have realised her mistake after registering their names. Whenever she stands outside and calls to them she always, rather red-facedly, shouts for Jack and Danny, rather than Daniel.” – Susan

5. Aaron and Erin
