Recall: Roll-Up Blinds

The U.S. Consumer Product and Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Bamboo Roll-up blinds with valance. Strangulation can occur when a child becomes entangled in the free standing loop.

There have been no injuries reported with this particular blind, but there was a report this weekend of a child who nearly choked to death in the free standing loop of roll-up blinds. A 5-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition after his father noticed he had stopped moving while playing in the family's living room. The boy was life-flighted and ultimately survived.

The CPSC estimates approximately 500 children have strangled on the cords of blinds and shades since the 1980's. Millions of blinds have been recalled by the CPSC and large stores such as IKEA, who recalled 3.5 million blinds in June.
