Apple Unveils iPhone 5S and Cheaper Plastic iPhone 5C


It’s like Christmas morning for tech-lovers around the world today, as Apple Inc. has revealed the latest and greatest iProducts to hit the market.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook kicked off the launch big event in Cupertino, where the company debuted two new iPhones – the 5S and 5C.

The iPhone 5S, available for sale September 20, has a new super fast processor and Touch ID, a fingerprint authentication security feature.

The phone will be made of high-grade aluminum and come in three metallic colors – silver, gold and a tone called “space gray.” The phone will retail for $199 with a two year contract.

And for the first time, Apple will also release a less expensive version called the iPhone 5C. It will come in at least five colors and be available for pre-order on September 13 for $99 with contract.

Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, called the gadget “beautifully, unapologetically plastic.” “Multiple parts have been reduced to a single polycarbonate component whose surface is continuous.”

In addition to the new products, Apple will roll out several updates for the iOS 7 operating system.
