Kraft Recalls Velveeta Shells & Cheese Products

Kraft Foods is recalling three types of Velveeta Shells & Cheese single-serving microwaveable cups due to the possible presence of small pieces of metal in the food products.

The possible presence of thin wire bristle pieces led the company to voluntarily recall 137,000 cases of the product, which had been shipped around the country.

So far, there have been no reports of injuries or complaints at this time. The recall is being issued “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a written statement made by Kraft Foods.

The following products are affected by the recall:

Velveeta Shells & Cheese original microwaveable 2.39 oz. cups with a “best when used by date” of May 16, 2012. UPC #2100002322.

Velveeta Shells & Cheese original four pack 2.39 oz. microwaveable cups with “best when used by dates” of April 24, 2012 to May 16, 2012. UPC #2100002339.

Velveeta Shells & Cheese made with 2% milk microwaveable 2.19 oz. cups with “best when used by dates” of March 25, 2012 to March 30, 2012. UPC #2100002323.

Velveeta Shells & Cheese made with 2% milk four pack microwaveable 2.19 oz. cups with “best when used by dates” of March 29, 2012 to April 12, 2012. UPC #2100002946.

Velveeta Rotini & Cheese Broccoli microwaveable 2.44 oz. cups with “best when used by dates” of April 29, 2012 to May 14, 2012. UPC #2100002318.

Only products with these “best-when-used-by” dates are being recalled, and consumers can find the information on the bottom of the package. If you have any of the affected products in your pantry, you should not eat them and immediately return them to the store where they were bought for an exchange or full refund.
