Texas Alfalfa Sprouts Recalled

Green Valley Food Corp. has recalled more than 6,000 cases of “Let’s Grow Healthy Together!” alfalfa sprouts because of possible salmonella contamination.

The Dallas, Texas based company pulled the veggies after a random sample tested positive for the bacteria earlier this month. There have not yet been any confirmed illnesses linked to the tainted sprouts, and the voluntary recall was a precautionary measure.

The affected sprouts were packaged in small plastic containers and carry the expiration date of January 1, 2012 on the label. They were primarily distributed to retail chains and food distribution centers in Texas.

For more information on the specific products included, view the full recall on the FDA website here. Consumers who think they have some of the affected sprouts should dispose of them immediately.
