Michael Douglas Opens Up to Kids About Cancer Diagnosis

Michael Douglas, who has been struggling with stage 4 throat cancer for the past few months, decided to be completely open and honest with his kids about his diagnosis. Michael, 65, and wife Catherine Zeta Jones revealed the news to their two youngest children – Dylan, 10 and Carys, 7 – together.

Keeping the news a secret wasn’t even an option. “I don’t know what else you would do. It is what it is,” Michael tells USA Today.

He jokes that his kids are staying positive and focusing on the upside, “They’re happy I can’t talk that much. Sometimes you say, ‘Daddy’s tired.’ Okay, great.”

Michael has even gotten the kids involved in the process. “I’ve taken them down to the hospital and shown them the whole radiology thing. They’ve watched me actually get zapped.”

Michael is staying strong and optimistic his family, saying, “I like my odds. I’m not dealing with mortality issues until they tell me, ‘Oops, we have to go back and do surgery’ or something like that…The tumor is shrinking. The odds are good.”

We’re praying for your recovery, Michael!
