Twitter's COO Dick Costolo has become the company's new CEO, anounced former CEO and founder Evan Williams on the company blog Monday morning.
“Building things is my passion, and I’ve never been more excited or optimistic about what we have to build,” Evan wrote. “This is why I have decided to ask our COO, Dick Costolo, to become Twitter’s CEO. Starting today, I’ll be completely focused on product strategy.”
It seems like Evan is making a wise business choice, since Dick has a track record as a "three-time successful CEO," for companies like the startup Feedburner, acquired by Google in 2007.
It's no secret that Twitter's popularity has grown tremednously since it first launched. The four-year-old company has over 300 employees and its users generate 90 million tweets a day!
It seems like everyone's got a twitter account these days — from your neighbor's 8-year-old to your great aunt in Europe. Yes, it certainly qualifies as a mega phenomenon!
