Canadian air force officer Col Russell Williams was given two concurrent life sentences with no chance of parole for two murders and sexual assaults.
The pilot pleaded guilty to the sexual assaults and murders of Maria Comaeu, 38, and Jessica Lloyd, 27, saying to the court, "I deeply regret what I have done and the harm I know I have caused. I've committed despicable crimes."
Williams, 47, also admitted to videotaping and photographing the sexual assaults before he killed the women.
In tears, Williams told the court that he betrayed "my family, my friends and colleagues and the Canadian Forces…I shall spend the rest of my life regretting that I have ended two vibrant, innocent and cherished lives.”
The colonel's two life sentences mean he must serve a minimum of 25 years behind bars before he has any chance of parole.
