Eye shadow adds drama to the eye. It enhances the color of your iris and really makes your eyes pop. All too often, women forsake bright-colored eye shadows for neutrals, in fear of looking garish or overdone. Worn in a subtle manner, bright eye shadow can tie together your entire look. Keep in mind that less is more when it comes to donning your eyes with your favorite hue.
Step 1: Prime Lids
Prime your eyelids using an eye shadow primer before brushing on your bright eye shadow. Close your eyes and dab on a small amount of primer, gently patting it into your skin with your fingertips.
Step 2: Apply With Brush
Apply the bright eye shadow to your eyes using a brush. You have two options here. You can either apply the shadow only to the lid of your eye or take it all the way up to the brow bone. For the most subtle look, apply a light layer of bright eyes shadow to only your lids, brushing on a neutral color above it to the brow bone.
Step 3: A Few Coats of Mascara
Add a few coats of mascara to the upper and lower lashes of both of your eyes. Not only will the mascara help balance the bright eye shadow, it will also help hide any bright shadow that has fallen onto your lashes.
Step 4: Downplay the Rest if Your Face
Downplay your lips and cheeks by adding a subtle hint of color to each. If you want to wear bright eye shadow without looking like you are overdoing it, stick with neutral blushes and lip colors. A light dusting of blush, coupled with a hint of color on your lips, will soften your look.
Step 5: Finish Off with Face Powder
Finish everything off with a dusting of translucent face powder. Translucent face powder will help blend your entire look together and also help keep everything in its place for an all-day fresh appearance.
