Kate Middleton is Pregnant – For Real!

Well, it’s official… there’s a royal bun in the oven!

The palace has confirmed that Kate Middleton and Prince William are expecting their first child.

“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby,” read the statement released Monday.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news.”

The 30-year-old was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London due to suffering hyperemesis gravidarum – also known as acute morning sickness.

“As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter,” the statement continued.

The royal couple has made no secret of their plans to start a family. In the joint interview following the announcement of their engagement, he spoke about their intentions:

“We’ll sort of get over the marriage first and then maybe look at the kids,” he told ITN. “But obviously we want a family so we’ll have to start thinking about that.”

Where does the baby fall in the line of succession?

William is second in line to the throne after his father, Prince Charles, so his first child would normally become monarch in due course.

Up next: nine (ish) months of speculation about the pregnancy, the baby’s gender and what the royal couple will choose to name their little bundle of joy!
