Exclusive: Brooke Burke Talks About Her Surgery Results

As ModernMom readers might already know, our CEO Brooke Burke recently underwent a thyroidectomy to remove a cancerous growth on her thyroid.

She shared with us the results of her surgery:

“While the presence of papillary cancer was confirmed in a small nodule, it was encapsulated (which means confined to a specific area) and all the surrounding tissue was clear.”

Basically, this is great news!

She will have follow-up testing in six months but her doctors are optimistic that Brooke is cancer-free.

“It was the best case scenario,” she said. “We’re so happy and relieved.”

Brooke expressed her gratitude to the “brilliant medical team that guided me through the experience.” She also thanked the ModernMom community and everyone on social media who shared their love and support.

So what’s next for this self-described “manic mommy” of four? A little much-needed rest and recovery time.

The “Dancing with the Stars” host has said that she will take some time off while she recovers from the surgery.

“I’m taking the rest of the year off to spend time with my family. I’m really looking forward to the holidays, we’ll be celebrating each other and most importantly celebrating life.”

In the beginning of November, Brooke shared the news that doctors had discovered a cancerous growth on her thyroid.

In a YouTube video, she opened up about her diagnosis and said “I’m ready to deal with it, and I’m going to be fine. I feel really, really strong. Doctors say this is a ‘good’ kind of cancer to have … My doctor did tell me this is a happily ever after ending kind of thing.”

We’re so glad her doctors were right!
