Skin Care Products for Women

Keeping your skin looking and feeling its best requires some effort. While nutrition plays an important role in the health of your skin, certain products may help enhance your appearance. A basic skin care routine includes products that cleanse, hydrate and protect your skin. When purchasing skin care products, look for ones formulated for your skin type.

Cleansers

The main purpose of a skin cleanser is to remove oils and debris from the surface of your skin. Many cleansers contain added ingredients. Some cleansers, such as facial scrubs, contain particles that may irritate your skin and drive up the price of the products. After gently massaging the cleanser onto your skin, rinse your skin thoroughly to remove all traces of the product.

Acne Treatments

Many women experience acne breakouts, especially during hormonal fluctuations. While washing once or twice each day may help treat your acne, special products can reduce breakouts. Many acne products contain ingredients, such as benzoyl peroxide, that help dry out your skin. Products made with salicylic acid or sulfur help to break down blackheads and whiteheads. Acne products may cause excessive drying that leads to flaking skin. If you notice excessive dryness, reduce the frequency of applications.

Toners

Toners and astringents help remove oils, dirt and soap residue from your skin. Toners may also dry out your skin, depending on the level of alcohol they contain. If you have oily skin, a toner may temporarily help to reduce the oily sheen on the surface of your skin. Apply your toner to clean skin using a cotton ball or facial pad.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen can be one of the most important products you use on your skin. Sunscreens help protect your skin against the damage caused by the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Apply a sunscreen to all areas of exposed skin about 20 minutes before you head outside. Use a sunscreen that contains a broad-spectrum sun protection factor of 30 or higher.

Moisturizers

Moisturizers help hydrate your skin. If you experience breakouts, use a moisturizer that is non-comedogenic, meaning it doesn’t contain ingredients that clog your pores. Apply your moisturizer to your freshly washed skin to help trap in moisture. Select eye creams for your delicate eye area. Eye creams normally contain safe ingredients for use in this area, while some body lotions or hand creams may contain ingredients that can irritate or harm your eyes.
