Do you love to curl up on the couch and watch scary movies? While some of the classic horror flicks might be a little TOO scary for little ones, there are plenty of fun and frightful films that won't leave you with nightmares!

Here are some of our favorite Halloween movies that are just spooky enough for a family movie night:

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

This is a Halloween staple.  Kids of all ages will fall in love with poor ol’ Charlie Brown as he gets rocks in his trick-or-treat bag.  And you can’t help but love Linus for his insistence that the Great Pumpkin will rise from the pumpkin patch on Halloween night.

("The Great Pumpkin rises from his pumpkin patch and flies through the air with his bag of toys")

After writing a letter to the Great Pumpkin, Linus convinces Sally to join him in the pumpkin patch to away his arrival.  And as with every great Charlie Brown movie, Snoopy’s crazy antics will make your little ones giggle.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Disney)

Though the story is creepy as all get out, if your kids are at the end of elementary school, they are old enough to enjoy this film.  Made in 1949 with the talent of Bing Crosby, this story follows an awkward school teacher, Ichabod Crane, as he falls for the town beauty.  His efforts to win her over do not go well with Brom Bones, who tries to spook Crane through the tale of the Headless Horseman.  While this may spook little bitty ones, it’s still a Halloween classic.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Tim Burton has a flair for creating classic Halloween movies.  In this stop action movie, Jack Skellington is the pumpkin king of Halloween Town.  After getting lost in the woods, he discovers a portal to Christmas Town, and tries to bring Christmas to his spooky home.  After he and his friends kidnap, Santa, it’s up to them to get Christmas right.

Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit

Wallace is an inventor who lives with his trusty hound, Gromit.  Together, they investigate the were-rabbit, a scary bunny who’s eating all the town’s veggies!  Sure, your kids will probably hope a were-rabbit sneaks into the kitchen to steal away the greens, but the claymation duo will certainly steal your heart.

Hocus Pocus!

Starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimi, this hilarious spook is about how three witchy sisters are brought back from the grave by a teen boy trying to impress a lady.

(Carrie Bradshaw would not approve.)

With the help of his little sister and his crush, Max Dennison sends the sisters back to their graves just in time!
