Vegetable Soup Puree – AKA Super Girl Soup

I came by the VitaMix honestly. After breaking my blender year after year trying to make frozen margaritas, my husband purchased the VitaMix. This super charged blender claimed to have enough horsepower to withstand the ice crushing. Did it ever! Once I had the VitaMix on the counter top, it quickly became an essential kitchen tool. I recently test drove the VitaMix Professional Series 500, which has the added features of an on/off button, different settings, and pulse/continuous speed options. At this point I am obsessed with the VitaMix Professional Series 500. The three new settings are Smoothies, Frozen Desserts, and Hot Soups. I think this machine was invented for me. Thank you, VitaMix!

I know some of you don’t feel like you have the time to pack a lunch, but truthfully, it can take 5 minutes. With the knowledge that your kids may be eating all refined and processed foods at school, you may want to consider “brown bagging” their lunches from now on. Here are some really great ideas that your kids will love — and you can have them help you make it!

Energy Bars — Should You Give Them to Your Kid?

Remember when we gave our kids granola bars as a healthy snack? Well, all of a sudden, without anyone noticing, they have been re-packaged and come with a sales pitch. They’re now called energy bars. They come beautifully wrapped and packed full of goodies; some with chocolate chips and some with caramel. I am afraid soon we will see them sandwiched between whipped cream. Sure, they give energy, but it’s just all that sugar! That’s why kids love ’em. These bars often make big promises. Some promise increased energy and others offer up extra nutrition. Once you cut through all the hype and the flashy packaging, turns out all you may be really getting is a stiff dose of sugar.
