Thyroidectomy Cancer Results From the ‘Bu, GREAT News!

It’s Day 7 post-surgery and I’m feeling pretty good. I’m quite sore but I have to say, every single day seems to be getting better.

I just got the results back from all of my tests and great news – the thyroid cancer has been removed from my body and all my lymph nodes are clear. So I’m hoping that this is the end of the story. Woohoo!!! And thank GOD!

My surgery went really well and recovery is much better than I expected it would be. I’ve been home for the past week, watching a lot of TV, which I never do.  Having movie marathons and I’ve almost made it through the entire season of Showtime’s hit show Homeland. I can’t remember the last time I lost myself in someone else’s story.

It’s so out of the ordinary for me – to not be working or rushing from place to place driving the kids around. But I have to admit I could kinda get used to this. I’m starting to feel like a housewife, minus the household chores… not a bad gig.

In a weird way, it’s kind of the perfect ending to a very busy year. I’ve taken the rest of the year off to recover and catch up with my family and now we’re just celebrating life.

I never thought a mandatory vacation would be under these circumstances but it’s nice to quiet the noise and enjoy the R&R and stay home for a change.

Every day I’m feeling better and I’m looking forward to getting back to my usual routine, but with a bit of a different outlook. I’ve never been one to take life for granted and it sounds so cliché to say it, but this whole thyroid experience has given my family such a scare that it seems to have brought us all closer. And it’s allowing us to ring in the New Year with a newfound respect for life.

I’ll keep you posted on my recovery. It’s been so helpful for me to hear from everyone regarding their stories and experiences. A friend came over with a really great thyroidectomy recovery care package – filled with some recovery suggestions that he found from a patient online. She was brave enough to share her entire healing experience along with photos and suggestions for what someone could do who might be visiting or caring for somebody who has gone through the same thing. Super helpful and I think I’ll do that as well.

I’m looking forward to my post-op and getting life back to normal but for now, I plan to milk this easy time,  hang up my driving hat and head back into my theatre.

The best babysitter I could find! My little bro Fat Cat!
