Gene Shalit Leaves “Today” Show


Gene Shalit officially left the "Today" show Thursday morning, after 40 years of film critiques. Shalit joined the show in 1970 as a regular contributor.

The "Today" show gave him a nice sendoff Thursday morning, honoring his 40 years of service.

"Gene is not just a ‘Today’ show treasure but a television legend and an American icon," Today executive producer Jim Bell said. "We salute him for his unprecedented 40-year run on a single television program, a feat unlikely to ever be matched."

"It's enough already," says Shalit. After all, he is 84-years-old!
