UC Regents Approve 8% Tuition Increase for Fall 2011

In a 15-5 vote, the board of UC regents approved an 8% fee-hike Thursday. University of California undergrads will be paying approximately $822 more next year because of this increase.

One of the regents who opposed this decision, Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado, said he wished UC administrators would find more efficient ways to run the 10-campus system before adding to the burdens of students and their families.

While the expanded financial aid will sheild low-income students from paying more, middle-income families will still have the burden of ever-increasing tuition.
