A United Nations committee added the passionate Spanish flamenco and bread-rich French gastronomy its list of “intangible heritages” that need preservation, reported a UN spokeswoman on Wednesday.
New items added to the list were 51 strong in number, and represented 29 countries. The intangible heritages list highlights elements needing protection amid globalization and urbanization, according to CNN.
“The gastronomic meal of the French is a customary social practice for celebrating important moments,” a UN rep said in a statement. This is the first time cuisine has made the list.
