Funny man Leslie Nielsen, who made us laugh uncontrollably in movies like Airplane! and The Naked Gun, died Sunday at the ripe age of 84 near his home in Fort Lauderdate, Florida, surrrouded by his "lovely wife and friends".
Nielsen's agent said that the actor had been hospitalized two weeks prior to his death, which was due to complications of pneumonia.
"Just in this last 48 hours, the infection has gotten too much," his nephew Doug Nielsen told Canadian radio station CKNW. "He just fell asleep and passed away."
Nielsen "enjoyed a more than 60 year career in motion pictures and television," noted his agent in a statement, but he will surely be remembered by one line from Airplane!: Said Nielsen, as Dr. Rumack, "I am serious . . . and don't call me Shirley."
