Have you heard? Today is World AIDS Day!
HIV is a virus that attacks the body's immune system, and there is no cure for it. It can be passed on through contact with bodily fluids, and can eventually cause AIDS when the immune system is so weak it can no longer fight off a range of diseases it would normally be able to cope with. HIV is increasing in every region of the world, and 25% of people with HIV don't even know they're infected. These are some startling stats!
Aroud 33 million people are living with AIDS, making it one of the most destructive epidemics in history. Thousands of people die from it, a large percentage of which are children.
World AIDS Day was started in 1988 to raise awareness for the disease, and even Hollywood celebrities are taking strides to get people to pay attention to this killer.
