How to Spiral Curl Your Hair With a Flat Iron

If you usually wear your hair straight, but like the idea of curling it from time to time, you don’t need to invest in both a curling and a flat iron.

Although it is designed to straighten hair, you can also use your flat iron to get modern looking waves and ringlets. It’s so easy!

To make spiral curls, you run the flat iron through sections of hair in much the same way you would run the blade of a pair of scissors over a ribbon to curl it.

Step 1

Shampoo and condition your hair. Towel dry to remove excess moisture so that hair is not soaking wet.

Step 2

Run the de-frizzing cream through your hair, then blow dry. Brush your hair as you dry it to smooth it out and remove any tangles. Your hair needs to be completely dry before you start to curl it.

Step 3

Spray hair all over with a heat protecting spray. Divide hair into sections and separate with the hair clips. If you want a lot of small curls, divide hair into 1/2 or 1-inch sections. Make larger sections for larger curls.

Step 4

Place the flat iron at the top of one section in the middle of the back of your head. The iron should be close to your scalp, but not so close that you touch your scalp with the iron. Turn the iron so that the hair wraps around it. You should turn the iron 180 degrees, so that if you start with the handle of the iron pointing down, you should turn it so that the handle points up.

Step 5

Slide the iron down through the section of hair. If you want a loose curl, pull the iron through quickly. Pulling it slowly through the hair will create a tight curl. Repeat with the remaining sections of hair.
