Eye Shadow Makeup Tips

For a classic look, try this technique. Choose three neutral shade colors--a light shade, a medium shade and a darker shade. Cover your lid with the medium shade. Swipe the darkest shade across your lash line. Put the lightest color in the crease of your lid. Blend the colors with the tip of your finger or with a makeup sponge.

If you are looking sleepy, here is a technique you can do to make your eyes look fresh and well rested. Put a swipe of white eye shadow on your brow bone, right under your eyebrow. Put a dot of white eye shadow in the inner corner of your eye between your tear duct and your nose.

To create a sexy, smokey eye, try this technique. Swipe a line of black shadow across the lash line. Cover the rest of your lid with a dark gray shadow. Blend the black shadow into the gray to get a middle tone in-between the light and dark shade.

If you have dark circles under your eyes, make sure that your choice in shadow doesn't make them worse. Avoid shadows that contain blue pigments. For example, don't use purple, lavender, navy or periwinkle. Blue pigments match the blue in the dark circles, giving you the look of a black eye.

Do you like the look of dramatic eyes in magazine fashion editorials? Here is how to get that look. Choose three bright, complementary eye colors, such as canary yellow, lime green and grass green. Royal purple, navy blue and lavender are another good example of dramatic complementary colors. Put the darkest color in the corners of the eyes on the upper lid. Cover the rest of the eyelid with the medium toned shadow and swipe the lightest on the brow bone and crease. Make sure that the colors are blended. On the bottom lid, trace the lash line with the darkest color and fill in the rest of the lid with the lightest color.
