How to Remove Wrinkles From a Silk Dress

Morguefile

You're invited to a wedding and have the perfect dress to wear. There's only one problem: the dress is silk and it has wrinkles. You have no clue what to do and no time to take it to a dry cleaner, so what's the solution? Removing wrinkles from a silk dress is not too complicated, and before you know it, you'll be dressed to perfection, ready for the big occasion...continues below

  1. Step 1

Turn the dress inside out. Silk is very delicate, and you want to work from the inside to avoid marring the sheen.

  2. Step 2

Preheat the iron to the lowest setting.

  3. Step 3

Arrange the top of the dress over the narrow end of an ironing board, smoothing out any folds or creases.

  4. Step 4

Place a clean thin towel (such as a dish towel) over the bodice of the dress.

  5. Step 5

Hold the hot surface of the iron one-half inch above the towel, moving it around the covered area until the wrinkles are released (about 30 seconds).

  6. Step 6

Shift the material to another area, working the bodice first, then the sleeves. Treat the skirt last; being careful not to crease or fold the areas you have already ironed.

  7. Step 7

Hang your dress on a padded hanger until you're ready to put it on.
