Making play dough is one way to keep kids busy on a snowy or rainy day. This easy play dough recipe does not involve using the stove, as some do, but it does use hot water. The dough contains all edible ingredients and is fruitfully aromatic. The ingredients are inexpensive, and more than one batch can be made if you want to make more than one color...continues below

  1. Step 1

Fill a teakettle halfway with water and bring to a boil. The water may also be heated in a microwave using a microwave-safe glass container.

  2. Step 2

Measure the flour and salt and pour them into the bowl. Mix with a spoon to blend the ingredients. Crush any flour lumps with the spoon.

  3. Step 3

Open the package of powdered drink mix and pour it into the flour mixture. Use a variety of drink mixes to make more than one color dough. Use cherry for red, lime for green or grape for purple.

  4. Step 4

Add the liquid ingredients to the dry mixture. Measure and pour the oil and blend thoroughly. Pour the hot water in. Mix with a spoon until the dough is cool enough to handle.

  5. Step 5

Knead the play dough on a cloth until it is smooth and the colored beverage mix is blended into the dough. Now it's ready for play.
