Get Great Feet for Summer

Summer Feet

Leonardo Barbosa

During the winter you probably don't think about your feet as they are swathed in socks and shoes, or layers of coverage that include boots if you live in a cold climate. As soon as the weather starts getting warm, though, your mind turns to thoughts of strappy heels and cute flip-flops, and panic sets in as you take a look at your mistreated tootsies. Don't worry. You can get your feet ready for summer weather and cute footwear in no time with a few at-home pedicure treatments...continues below

  1. Step 1

Soak your feet in a tub of warm water for 10 minutes. The warm water will soften the dead skin, making it easier to remove.

  2. Step 2

Mix a batch natural exfoliants to scrub away calluses and hydrate feet. Good Housekeeping suggests mixing half a pint of crushed, ripe strawberries, two tablespoons of olive oil and a cup of brown sugar. You also can mix two teaspoons of honey, a cup of brown sugar and a quarter-cup of mineral oil for an extra-hydrating exfoliant.

  3. Step 3

Scoop the exfoliant into your hand and gently rub it over your heels, working your way slowly to the toes.

  4. Step 4

Rinse the scrub and dab dry with a clean towel. You won't need to apply lotion because the scrub is naturally hydrating.

  5. Step 5

Rub away leftover calluses with a pumice stone. Rinse any dead skin and dab dry with a clean towel.

  6. Step 6

Push the cuticles of your toenails back with a cuticle stick while they are still soft from the soak, and cut your toenails straight across. File them into a rounded shape.

  7. Step 7

Make your toenails look naturally healthy by applying a coat of clear nail polish.
