Joan Didion once wrote that “We tell ourselves stories in order to live.” These words, conceived before she turned 45, took on a new meaning for the author as she became 75.

If you're anything like us, you've always wanted to join a book club. It sounds great - a bunch of women gathering to discuss literature over a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine). But it just never seems to work out. Schedules conflict, calendars get too crazy and that book sits unread on your nightstand.
That's why we're so excited to introduce a new feature on the website - our Book Club for ModernMoms!

Sugar, Sugar: Every Recipe Has a Story by Kimberly Reiner and Jenna Sanz-Agero. Andrews McMeel, $29.99 (312p) ISBN 978-1-4494-0358-4
Twelve-year-olds with guns and knives. Sixteen-year-olds with crossbows, and pumped-up older teens going on violent rampages. Why? Because children, ages 12 to 18, are condemned to fight one another to the death while residents of their nation watch on TV and root for the contestants that charmed them in their pre-game interviews. The last one alive is declared the "winner."
Happy chaos reigned at the Soleil Moon Frye's book launch party yesterday in Beverly Hills, with kids tumbling through the backyard, covered in glitter and frosting.
The bash, which was hosted by Target, had countless activity stations set up for little ones - they could decorate cupcakes, glitter-paint picture frames, tie-dye t-shirts or put together wooden boats to sail around in the swimming pool. There were even a few "kid" activities that were fun for adults, like the henna tattoo tent and the hair feather booth.
When the book “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother” hit the bookshelves the controversy lit up the skies as if it was July 4th.
