An Arizona high school baseball team chose to forfeit the state championship rather than face off against an opponent that has a girl on its team.
Our Lady of Sorrows, a fundamentalist Catholic school, was slated to play Mesa Preparatory Academy in the Arizona Charter Athletic Association state championship. But they pulled out because of 15-year-old Paige Sultzbach, who plays second base for Mesa Prep.
Sports Illustrated came in the mail this week, and on the cover was a dedication to Title IX.
40 years ago, Title IX was created to give women the right to play sports: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance...”
Not only did this amendment allow us girls to play sports as kids, but also it gave women a chance to take their skills to college and receive athletic scholarships.
Well, it's official, we have kicked off Dancing With The Stars Season 14, and I think it is the highest level of dancing we've ever seen. All our couples survived two nights of dancing and one sad elimination, saying goodbye too soon to Martina XXX. I remember too well when I screwed up my jive and forgot the routine….so awful! One bad dance proved last night that it could be the last.
It’s the third inning of my softball game, I’m catching for one of the hardest throwing pitchers in my town’s league and I’m talking 80 mph windmill pitch for twelve-year-olds.
It is that time of year again... March Madness!
The time of year that husbands tell their wives they are working late, when they really left work early to go to the bars with friends to watch college basketball, and lots of guys call in “sick” Friday to watch the games.
Spring sports' sign-ups are almost here and since my son turns five this month, he is now old enough to play more sports. In addition to baseball, my son is going to start playing lacrosse. And already thinking of the fall, I wanted to sign him up for football, fall lacrosse, hockey, and basketball.
The New York Knicks - led by Jeremy Lin - did it again on Valentine’s Day night!
The point guard who came out of nowhere hit the game winning 3-point shot with a half-second left giving the New York Knicks a 90-87 win over the Raptors in Toronto.
I love Madonna. I have loved Madonna from the moment she burst onto the scene in fishnet stockings, too much hairspray and a bad die job.
If my iPod playlist isn’t enough proof, well frankly, I don’t know what is:
Happy Super Bowl Weekend!!! I can’t remember that last time my husband was excited about a weekend or planning a get together! This year we’re doing it different, and I am NOT cooking for 30!
The guys have booked a bunch of tables at a local sports bar while the wives, kids and I will play at the park, shop and enjoy some girl time. We’ll hook up with the guys for the ½ time show, margaritas and dinner. I can’t wait to see the Super Bowl commercials!
