It’s no secret that when it comes to fashion women dress for other women. A man in general is easy to please, for the most part they are clueless and they like the basics… cute, sexy, and confident with your best assets highlighted. It’s other women, other style hunters that understand your taste and notice every detail.
This may pose a challenge to mothers of children under 5 everywhere, but one of the biggest fashion trends for Spring and Summer 2011 is white. That's right, I'm telling you that the new black is...the exact opposite of black.
The 70s are back in a big way, and high-waisted jeans are very of-the-moment. This retro, wide-leg cut can be both figure flattering and elongating. (So feel free to stash away any muffin top-producing low rise denim for awhile.)
Let's face it, being a mom limits your shoe selection. Unfortunately, it's just not that practical to hit the playground in platforms. And showing up to Mommy and Me in hot, 6-inch stilettos will just yield disapproving stares--not compliments on the length of your legs. The good news is that there are tons of cute, comfy and practical-without-being-boring shoes that you can rock while on mommy-duty and still maintain your personal style. Here are my favorite mother-approved shoes of the season:
1. A little white dress
Forget the LBD, this is the spring of the Little White Dress! A loose-fitting white dress is what you'll want to wear out to dinner in the tropics. My favorite of the season is this Stella McCartney beaded slip dress.
For a less expensive option, here are some other LWDs I love:
Spring is officially here, which means you now have the perfect excuse to go on that much needed shopping excursion. Get ready to add some of these gorgeous trends into your wardrobe this season!
1. Wide Leg Pants
The 70s are back and looking fabulous as ever. With a pair of high-waisted wide leg trousers you can achieve a chic, sophisticated look that is comfortable and easy to move in. Try matching your new pants with a thin belt and a pair of wedges to complete a slimming, lengthening look.
2. Florals
Black is my number one, when-in-doubt, go-to color. It saves me many a getting-ready catastrophe! Of course, wearing all black, all the time can get a little boring. The antidote to a monotonous all-black ensemble is mixing textures. Don’t be afraid to mix leather, lace, suede, knits, and even exotic skins like I do here.
Being known as a “techie” in fashion world is considered just about as sexy as being called a “trekkie”… both are an absolute crime in the eyes of a fashionista! However in the real world, especially the world of a multi tasking mother/ businesswoman being a “techie” has its real advantages.
Being a California native a t-shirt has always been a staple in my closet. Even though most would not consider my wardrobe to be casual, my own personal style still consists of pieces that would be classified as basic sophistication. With all the wonderful fabrics on the market a tee has become so much more than something you wear to the gym. From luxury blends like cashmere and silk to fashion details, fits and colors there is a tee out there for every occasion.
Whether you wear the perfect “vintage tee” loose and easy with a pair of boyfriend jeans.
