Thanksgiving is a time that we gather together to celebrate with those we love. And as we reflect on all that we are thankful for, it's also a good time to consider those who are less fortunate. Here are four simple ways that you can get into the festive spirit by helping others:

Do you ever ponder, in moments of bafflement at the world today, how differently our globe would spin if women ruled instead of men? It would be such an easy fix. Women are more nurturing, less interested in dominance, less violent due to estrogen instead of testosterone running through our veins, more collaborative. Right?
One of my first memories is of my mom scooping me up and kissing me. I can’t remember what had upset me, but I can vividly picture running into her arms and having my tears kissed away. In years to come, she would be the one to stay up with me when I was sick, help me with my homework, and take me to ballet lessons and soccer games. I never considered what my life would be like without her.
I was so proud to be named a Smile Ambassador for Operation Smile in 2010. This charity has touched my heart in a deep way. You can visit their website to learn more about what they do and how many children need their attention.
The last two years have been an incredible journey for myself and my now 14 year old daughter, Jade. In February of 2009, I was in need of a heart. I was given days to live and received a heart on my 59th birthday. I thank my donor family everyday. Since this is my first blog and we are just getting to know one another, I had a whole introduction planned. However, this past week, I went to the Donate Life Hollywood Inspire Awards.

I walked the red carpet at a very important charity with my family. John Varvatos and the Stuart House were raising money and awareness for sexually abused children. The organization offers therapy, medical assistance and other services for children and families in need of help related to traumatic events. It’s a painful, disturbing and very real subject that many people do not talk about.
We all have had experiences in our lives that have left us downtrodden. Unfortunately, part of being human is feeling pain, whether it be physical or emotional. We all have difficult roads in our life journey that we need to survive and hopefully, ultimately rise above.
Room to Read is an organization that believes the world should be a place where all children can "pursue a quality education that enables them to reach their full potential and contribute to their community and the world".
In doing this, they focus on literacy and gender equality in education in developing countries by teaching kids how to read and supporting girls to complete secondary school with the life skills needed to succeed in school and afterward.
Lemonade is typically made with lemon juice, water, and sugar. What makes Emily Lopez’s lemonade special is one extra ingredient: love.
