When I found out I’d get to interview Academy Award nominated screenwriter and (fabulous) actress Nia Vardalos, I actually let out a girlie squee.
This wasn't just because she’d written and starred in two of my favorite movies - My Big Fat Greek Wedding and My Life in Ruins. Mainly, I knew we’d get along because of three things:
1. We are both Libras
2. We both love Imagination Movers (and think they’re hot)
Sad story alert: We just put our dog to sleep today (hours before this writing). Our lab/Australian shepherd mix was 15 1/2 years old and our son with autism had known her his own life.
How did our son handle saying goodbye to the family dog?
Our son was a superstar today.
On Mother’s Day, one of my closest friends from summer camp left me a voicemail message. This woman has witnessed my ugliest, most vulnerable, childish stages over a 30 year stretch and therefore can share her own hellish moments with me with impunity.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that he intends to sign into law a bill that bans Americans from adopting Russian children.
Speaking at a televised government meeting in Moscow, Putin said that he will "weigh everything" in the bill but that he still does not see any reason why he should not sign it.
The controversial measure was approved by the Russian parliament on Wednesday.
When starting on a new adventure, a new path in life, it’s always good to let someone know where you’re going, just in case you need help once you get there.
Our families had always been good at that - being there, but this would be different. We were talking about bringing in a child that we weren’t birthing.
Back in June, I had great plans to start a series of articles about our journey to expand our family.
My husband and I have spent the last six months discussing adoption. We have talked at great length about embryo adoption and domestic and international adoption. Next month is National Adoption Awareness month, and I hope to blog in great detail about all three options.
One Michigan couple is hoping that a bird will bring them a baby - but it's no stork!
After three unsuccesful years on a small agency’s waiting list, Rick and Erika Jones are using Twitter to help them adopt.
Now, it's no secret that the adoption process can be emotionally and physically trying - with untold amounts of paperwork and red tape to sift through before one can even be placed on the waiting list for a child. American parents who want to adopt domestically often wait years - and spend thousands of dollars - before being matched with a child.
Let’s adopt.
Those were two words I never thought I’d hear my husband say.
When we were engaged, I’d told him I wanted six kids and would be willing to adopt to have as many as we could afford. My cousin was adopted, and I couldn’t imagine my life without him.
