I stopped “growing up” years ago. Now I’m in the process of shrinking toward my 40's. However, I still remember growing pains. Not the emotional pain of growing up - the BFFs who barely lasted a week or the boy who didn’t like you back because you were too tall.

I want to share with you something that I came up with when I was pregnant with my first child.
I sat in Friday night traffic for an hour dropping my oldest daughter off at a sleep over last week. Upon arrival I turned to give her a hug and kiss goodbye, “Call me if you need anything” I said. But poof, she was gone before I could complete my sentence.

They live with us and see us at our best and our worst. They note when we’re curled up in a ball and ill, and when we’ve just gotten up in the morning, cranky, because we haven’t yet had our requisite cup of java. They witness our behavior when we’re happy and, in our lightness of heart, embarrass them by singing aloud all the wrong lyrics to pop songs, but only after having had that cup of java.

My dad turns 80 next year. He is a bull. Looks like mafia. Avid golfer and talented haberdasher. Drinks scotch every night and sneaks smokes when my mom isn’t watching. He is also one of the best things that ever happened to me.
