Health Benefits of Drinking Coffee

Coffee is one of the post popular drinks in the world and, until the last few years, it's gotten a bad rap when it comes to health. However, some recent studies are beginning to point to moderate (3 to 5 cups a day) coffee consumption as a boon to drinkers. According to Dr. James Coughlin in the April 2007 issue of Science Daily, researchers have just begun to discover the benefits that coffee may have for individuals.

Cardiovascular Disease

Coffee drinkers have a 30 percent lower incidence of cardiovascular death. While they're not sure what chemicals in coffee get the credit, scientists are sure what the cause isn't: caffeine.

Type 2 Diabetes

Daily consumption of coffee appears to reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes, according to the Mayo Clinic in its February 2007 issue. They believe that the phenols in coffee may help regulate the levels of blood sugar.

Gallstones

Drinking coffee seems to prevent bile from crystallizing, the cause of gallstones.

Coffee seems to boost the body's natural supply of dopamine, which may prevent Parkinson's disease.
