Homemade Tie Cards for Father's Day

For generations, children have been giving their dads ties for Father's Day and other holidays. Whether or not your man would love a tie to complete his latest ensemble, your children can create a tie card to match the gift!

Keep your children entertained while they create a one-of-a-kind gift that will surely bring a smile to any dad's face. Use your favorite fabric swatch or pick up an old tie from a garage sale or consignment shop for a one-of-a-kind card.

Supplies

  • Scissors
  • Card stock
  • Colored paper
  • Cardboard
  • Glue
  • Old tie
  • Buttons

Directions

Cut a piece of cardboard into a rectangle - 6 inches by 4 and 1/2 inches. Cut neutral-colored card stock paper to cover the front and back of the cardboard. Glue the card stock paper to the cardboard.

Cut a piece of colored paper into a similar rectangle - 7 and 1/2 inches by 4 and 1/2 inches. Cut two 1-inch slits, one and a half inches from the top of the paper, when you are holding it vertically. Fold the two flaps to the front, with the top corners overlapping slightly. This should look like a men's button up-shirt with a collar.

Glue the paper to the cardstock/cardboard so that the bottom edges line up and the folded flaps extend over the edge of the cardstock/cardboard.

Cut an old tie seven to eight inches long. Slide the tie under the paper flaps that look like a collar, and glue securely under the flaps. Glue buttons onto the corners of the collar (if you want, glue the flap edges to the "shirt")

Write a note to Dad on the back! You're done!
