How To Get Stains Out of Baby Clothes

New Baby

If those sweet little outfits that were once clean and new are now getting stained--whether you use a bib or not--there are ways to get them out. Whenever possible, try to address the stain quickly. The longer it sets in, the harder it is to remove.

Step 1

Spray the stain as soon as you change the baby, using a laundry spot remover. This will stop the stain from setting. If used soon enough, it may be all you need to do.

Step 2

Sleeping like a Baby

Mix 1/2 cup laundry booster with 1/2 cup powdered dishwasher detergent in a 2-gallon bucket. Add 1 qt. boiling water and stir until all of the soap has dissolved, and then add 3 more qts. water. Make the temperature as hot as you can while adhering to the recommended washing temperature. Soak the stained clothes from an hour to overnight; wash as usual and rinse twice.

Step 3

Combine 2 tbsp. "oxygen cleaner" with 2 cups boiling water and stir until dissolved. Add 2 qts. water and soak the items for one hour, and then wash as usual. Again, rinse twice before drying.

Step 4

Sprinkle 1/2 tsp. baking soda onto the stain. Trickle 1/4 cup club soda onto the soda; let it stand for 5 minutes. Scrub gently with a soft brush until the stain is gone, and wash as usual.

Warnings

  • Don't place stained clothing in the dryer; the heat will set the stain. Always check and make sure the stain is gone first.
  • A baby's skin is very delicate and sensitive. It's important to always rinse out all soap residue before drying the clothing.
