How to Wear Eyelashes

Give your lashes a boost with false eyelashes.

False lashes can brighten your eyes, especially if your own lashes are fairly short or sparse. Lashes come in a variety of styles to suit your needs. For example, there are natural-looking lashes to just give your eyes a boost or brightly colored ones -- think hot pink or electric green -- for the times when you want to go a little wild. If you've never put on false lashes, the process can seem a bit intimidating, but you'll be applying them like a pro in no time.

Step 1

Put on all your other makeup. False eyelashes should be the last things you apply.

Step 2

Apply a light coat of mascara to your regular lashes. This helps them to blend with the false ones.

Step 3

Put a small line of glue along the edge of the false eyelashes. The strip is thin, so be careful not to overdo it. Makeup artist Susan McCarthy suggests using a toothpick to dab it on.

Step 4

Press the eyelashes along your lash line, starting from the inside. Pay particular attention to the outside and inside edges, as these are the areas that are most likely to come off.

Step 5

Repeat Step 3 and Step 4 for the other eyelash.

Step 6

Apply eyeliner over the new lash line. This helps the false eyelashes look more natural.
