How to Wear False Eyelashes

False eyelashes fill out thin natural eyelashes.

False eyelashes can give your eyes a naturally full look or allow you to go for a dramatic flair with brightly colored lashes. Two styles of lashes are available: the more common and easy-to-apply strip of lashes and the individual lashes. The steps for applying both are relatively the same. Applying false eyelashes does take some practice and sometimes trial-and-error to get the look you want.

Step 1

Bend the false eyelash strips gently before putting the lashes on to give them a natural curved look.

Step 2

Hold the eyelash strip up to your eyelid to measure the length. If the lashes are too long for your eyelid, cut them with scissors as needed for the right fit.

Step 3

Put mascara on your natural lashes prior to putting on the false lashes, as this helps the false lashes better adhere to your natural lashes.

Step 4

Dap a drop of eyelash adhesive to the base of the eyelash strip. Use your finger or a toothpick to spread the glue and coat the entire base.

Step 5

Apply the base of the false lashes to the upper part of your natural eyelash line. If you are applying a strip, start by pressing the false lash strip gently in the middle of your eyelid and working your way to the ends. For individual lashes, place each one where you want it and press the base gently into place. With individual lashes, you'll want to space each one evenly for a natural look. How many you need and how far to space depends on the look you're trying to achieve.

Step 6

Adjust the position as needed. The adhesive will not set right away, allowing you to make sure the lashes are positioned properly for your eye.

Step 7

Curl the lashes after applying. This will give them a more natural look and blend them with your natural eyelashes.
