There's less than a week until the nation celebrates it's independence! That means most of us are stocking up on hot dogs and sparklers.
Are you planning a fun family party? If so, we've got some great do-it-yourself decoration ideas to amp up the WOW! factor of your Fourth of July bash!
Patriotic Cake Pops
I was actually first introduced to cake pops at a Fourth of July barbecue, and they were just as cute as they were yummy. To make your cake pops explode with national pride, make three bowls of white chocolate coating. Add red food coloring to one bowl, and blue to another. Alternate dipping the cake pops in each color so you have equal amounts of each. To make the sticks more festive, you can wrap thin dowel rods with sparkly red, silver, and blue pipe cleaners. To serve, stick the ends in a flat piece of styrofoam (you can paint it red, white, and blue if you choose) so they stand up all on their own! The kids will love it, and the other moms will envy your creativity!
Liberty Candle Holders
During World War II, jarring your own food was an act of patriotism. Using mason jars, red, white, and blue tissue paper, and Elmer's glue (or Modge Podge) you can create fun centerpieces. Dip scraps of tissue paper in the glue and stick them to the outside of the jar. Have fun with it... you could even get the kids involved and have them each make one of their own! Once the jars are covered in paper, use a paint brush dipped in more glue to seal the bits on. Once they're dry, you can place a little votive inside the jar for a fun, glowing centerpiece. These are also fantastic for flowers... just fill with some of your favorites (real or fake)!
Uncle Sam's Photo Booth
Photo Booths have been popping up at weddings and birthday parties... now you can set one up at your Fourth of July party for some funny family photos! Have a prop box filled with: an Uncle Sam (and/or Abraham Lincoln) beard, an Uncle Sam (and/or Abraham Lincoln) top hat, a Statue of Liberty Crown, a Statue of Liberty Torch, and anything else you could think of (fun glasses, sparklers, etc). Hang an American Flag as a backdrop and have some disposable cameras ready for people to snap photos!
Whatever fun things you do to spiff up your Fourth of July party, don't forget to have fun and enjoy the birth of our nation with your family!
