Married at Sea on August 12, 2011

I’m sitting on the beach watching my kids play in the sea. It’s beyond magical here in St. Barts.

My apologies to my faithful, supportive ModernMom community for acting like 007 to pull off a private and spiritual wedding. I’m a little slow off the mark and it took me almost 20 years and two kids to run off and marry David.  But we did manage to plan a spontaneous, private and wildly romantic wedding ceremony – even though it took heading out to sea to escape the chaos of the paparazzi.

What’s really funny are the photos we will forever cherish of our romantic experience…Four kids all over us, in the water, in our bedroom, in almost every embrace.  But that’s our life and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I cannot imagine 4 more important people to have shared my wedding day with, and they were there every step of the way!

I have never been a traditional kind of woman, obviously if you look at my life…but tying the knot here in St. Barts where David and I romanced, many, many years ago will forever make this island our sacred place.  Marriage, for me, is a chance for a deeper commitment and marks a new phase in our lives.  The only thing that I can count on in my life is my family, that’s forever, and that includes David.  So we did it together, the six of us with love and certainty.

An extravagant, huge wedding was never in my dreams.  I wanted an intimate and spiritual day just for us. It was magically perfect. The weather, the water, and the energy that blew in the wind was surreal.

Lots of pics are circling the web right now. No privacy here, but I’m happy to share the memories with everyone…

Fate smiled at destiny and we were married at sea, August 12th, 2011
