I just finished purchasing all my kids' necessary back to school items. I'm feeling pretty prepped for back to school time! But today it dawned on me that back to school time isn't just about being physically prepared for your children to go back to school. It's also about being mentally prepared.
Today, I felt completely overwhelmed. I was thinking about 4 children, two school systems, 8:00 a.m. drop-offs, 9 ...
I've done a couple interviews recently about "mommyhood." I thought some interesting things came up in the interviews. The most asked question was how do I balance it all? I have to be honest, I don't really think it's always about balancing, instead I think of it as trying keep it harmonious and keep things running smoothly.

The last 5lbs are the hardest to lose and often the first 5 are the hardest to get going with.
There is a lot of info out there on both kick starting weight loss and losing the last 5 pounds. Interestingly enough, a lot of the information for both is the same. It all boils down to; eat less and exercise more, change up or add to your exercise routine, examine your diet, cut out ...

You may recall that the Sugar Mommas are big fans of BAKE SALES for a variety of reasons. Back to school time is the perfect season to rev up the oven and host your own bake sale for a cause. Since September is also Pediatric/Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’d like to suggest that you start off the school year teaching your kids the importance of philanthropy and just how easy it is to ...

I'm not sure if my husband and I ever could have imagined the lengths to which we would go in order to have a baby. But I am sure that it was shortly after our initial appointment with the fertility doctor that we knew our journey was going to be more complicated than we had originally planned. As I mentioned before (see “Our Journey” post), both my husband and I grew up devout Catholics ...

Everybody is settling nicely into the routine of school. There have been a few adjustments here and there, but for the most part it has been a smooth transition from the summer days to the back to school routine. The biggest adjustment has been for Finn who started Kindergarten. I remember when I sent my first child to kindergarten. I choked up as she walked into the classroom with a backpack on as big as ...
At times of personal crisis the world seems to shrink until all you can see is your own pain and despair.
That’s where Liz Gilbert was when she decided to spend a year exploring the world – at least exploring Italy, India and Bali. Her story – played beautifully by Julie Roberts in the newly released movie – feels at times narcissistic and shallow.
But her pain is all too evident as she works to forgive herself ...
We did it. In the nearly three months since my last blog I was able to GET AWAY from the craziness of our day-to-day lives. And I did it TWICE. And I feel human. Connected. With a baseline of peace that is a foundation for how I’m living today. WHEW.
We did it first as a family and took a vacation for a week. Let me give some context. I have had the hardest ...
When my insanely gorgeous wife and I were looking to buy a house, one very important amenity we wanted was a pool. Living north of Mulholland Drive, the temperature seems to jump about 1800 degrees. So, water to submerge the kids in after their running around the surface of the sun, was a necessity.

It took me a little longer than expected to write the second half of the triplets’ birth story because frankly getting things back to normal around here has been trying at times. Here I am recovering from major surgery to remove three babies from inside me; my husband only had a few days time to take off and even then took off a few unpaid days. Once he went back to work it was just ...

Today we are going to cover how to wash cloth diapers. I know many people are turned off from using them because of the washing process. Here are the steps to cleaning them yourself:
*Choose A Diaper Pail
*Any 5 gallon bucket will do but it needs to have a lid.
*Fill the bucket 3/4 full with water. To control odors you can add 1/4 cup of borax if you want.
*Put wet ...

My friend contacted me a couple of months ago, because her son had wet his bed. Of course that was nothing uncommon about that, but she was a little puzzled about how to handle it. She is a very experienced mother and first grade teacher, so she usually would not call for advice on her son's peeing problems. But she needed my help, because her son sleeps with a duvet and she didn't ...

Ok folks it looks like the summer has come to an end. There are no more lazy days by the pool, no more BBQ’s at the park, no more sleeping in, and most importantly no more kids around. Now, us child rearing adults, are faced with the fact that our kids are at school, leaving us with an empty house and an uncomfortable void to fill. Awe, this is what the experts call “empty ...

I heard a quote once that was a pediatrician’s response to a parent’s question about when they should start potty training their child and the doctor’s response was effectively “if you start when they are two they will be potty trained when they are three, and if you start when they are three then they will be potty trained when they are three”. Whoever this pediatrician is, you’re speaking my language ...
This weekend was great for shopping if you're a mom on a budget like myself. Red clearance signs covered the mall as almost every one of my favorite stores had a sale. I managed to score great peices that were affordable, fun, and tasteful for a mom my age. This shopping trip inspired me to give a mini lesson on shopping with limited funds. I will be giving tips on how to save money ...
A few weeks ago I was talking to a friend about how the librarian at her kids school was just let go due to budget cuts in California. We talked about how important it is for kids to have access to books and information, and how studies have shown the link between having access to a library and good test scores. So, when I saw that one of the Pepsi Refresh grant recipients was using ...

1. Explore many different styles of exercise. i.e jogging, yoga, pilates, cardio classes, privates, circuit, strength, etc..
2. Pay attention to a couple of things: how your body responds to the various type of exercise, especially within the 48 hours following your workout. This will be a good indicator on what areas you need to work on, identifying what feels "sore" vs what feels like a no no, does your respirtory fatigue match your ...
