Go Green--Food That Is!

It was a rough weekend! Rain was sick with a very high fever, and needed me by her side every moment. She's one of those kids that will NOT take medicine, and when I don't give her the option, she throws it up. Kinda defeats the purpose. So, it was a long few days…

I'm really excited about the 99 Days of Summer Campaign. Our focus is to give you daily tips to help you do something for yourself, and make the most of this vacation. For many moms, summer means the kids are home and that means constant entertainment; scheduling camps, play days, and activities. Personally, I feel like my older girls are so heavily scheduled all school year long, that I look forward to summer break so we can catch up and spend some quality time together. To be perfectly honest, I feel like a driver most of the year and I cannot wait to NOT have to spend hours a day in my car schlepping them, around!

Summer also means getting into your bathing suit that you may have been avoiding all year. There are many fad diets out here and quick fix promises. I posted my last blog because I wanted to share a reasonable, healthy eating plan that could become a way of life and help you shed some unwanted pounds, or allow you to maintain your ideal weight. As busy moms, it's challenging to make time for us, and to carve out even 30 minutes for some exercise. My kids are all on different schedules, their needs come first when they REALLY NEED them, and so I am usually last on the totem pole when it comes to free time. Om the other hand, its super important to make some time for you, even if its 45 minutes 3 times a wk. Lately David and I have been working out together, because our time alone is rare too! I planned to do Pilates today, but Rain was sick so no chance for that!

I've decided to experiment and Go Green for the week. Some of my friends have been eating this way and they lost a lot of weight and had incredible energy. Eating only green foods is a great summer cleanse, a total challenge of discipline, and could kick start your healthy eating habits this summer. I have to say…

"I AM NOT TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT!" - I am excited about trying something new, I love the idea of doing a seasonal cleanse, and I happen to love green foods. If I do start dropping pounds. like many do, I will change the diet appropriately. I have gone on record many times saying that I do not believe in trendy diets. I am doing this to challenge my eating habits, because I have been eating pretty bad lately and I am hoping to get more energy. I am so exhausted from not sleeping with the kids, that I will try anything.

Here's my plan. I will eat only green foods, with the exception of olive oil, lemons, and garlic. I will not give up my morning Latte, though...let's be serious!!! You can eat as much as you want, as often as you like as long as it's green.

That does not include green M&Ms, green jelly beans or Stella Artois. I can't give you much more info because this is my first time doing this, but my friends are raving about their results. I would love for anyone interested to join me and share your feedback. I will be tweeting my every bite. My mom and the girls from Babooshbaby are joining me as well!

Here is what I bought from the grocery store to prepare:

  • green apples
  • kiwi
  • green grapes
  • asparagus
  • spinach
  • edamame
  • jalapenos
  • garlic
  • lemons
  • olive oil (for sautéing)
  • brocollini
  • zucchini
  • cucumbers
  • parsley
  • peas
  • split pea soup
  • fennel
  • pesto sauce
  • string beans
  • snap peas
  • mint
  • romaine and butter lettuce

Go Green! Challenge yourself with me…..
