This week on our blog it has been all about the Dads, so we thought it would be appropriate to share with you some of our entertaining tips for this Father’s Day Weekend!
Ties are one size fits all, but not every Dad is the same. So...what do you do? With so many different personality types out there you must first determine what type of Dad you have and then let the creative juices start flowing! Father’s Day should be about spending the day with Dad and letting him know how much you appreciate him, and choosing activities or gifts that reflect his unique style will let him know how much you care. If you are having a hard time figuring out the perfect Sunday...we have included a few examples to get you started...ENJOY!
The Sports Enthusiast Dad
“Take me out to a ballgame...take me out to the crowd...buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks...” Growing up I am sure most of us have sung this line a few times and what better way to spend Father’s Day then to Root for your home team! Maybe you don’t have a professional stadium close by, but you could definitely plan a neighborhood ball game for all the local Dads and their kids! The Moms could even create a meal designed to fit the day with ballpark food!
If you happen to be in Northern California this weekend, maybe your weekend plans include taking dad to the U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco! If you aren’t one of the lucky ones that get to see your favorite golfer teeing it up this weekend, you could still schedule a tee time for you and Dad at a local golf course!
The Handyman Dad
Some of us we have been blessed with a Dad who is able to fix or build just about anything. He remodeled your kitchen on the weekends and built you a three bedroom custom tree house in the backyard! It’s time to pay him back for all his hard work...cause lets face it, he deserves it!
A trip to Home Depot may not sound like an ideal leisure activity...but armed with a shiny new gift card, it may just be his dream day! If your Dad is anything like my Dad he loves tinkering in the garage as well...Check your local paper and see if there are any car shows or gadget expos in the area. There are usually some amazing Father’s Day festivities to partake in this weekend.
The Indie Dad
Did you know your dad was into Indie Rock before you were born and he even has the LP’s to prove it! Yep that’s right! So maybe your dad is a little cooler than you once thought...humor him a little this weekend by indulging him in the good ole days.
Take him to a show at the Hotel Cafe or local underground venue...Make a trip to a vintage store to stock up on distressed jeans and flannels. You could also check out a film at the independent theatre or take him to that photo exhibit of Banksy’s work that he has been dying to go to...
DIY for DAD
And if you still have your head in a spin on what to do with Dad this Father’s day...how about a good old fashioned BBQ! What dad doesn’t like to enjoy a meal with his favorite kids!
We want to share with you this fun and easy DIY recipe that our very own, Brittany Westerman, created this week for the A Little Savvy Event blog!
HOMEMADE BBQ SAUCE & RUB for DAD
Ingredients for rub:
Mix all the ingredients together and gently whisk. Store in airtight container until you’re ready to use (we use mason jars). Makes 2 cups of rub. Note: this rub will be spicy, if you like it less spicy then add more paprika or brown sugar and less cayenne or chili powder.
Ingredients for BBQ sauce:
Mix all the ingredients together. Store in airtight container and refrigerate until you’re ready to use (again, we use mason jars). Makes 2 cups of sauce.
