The Do's and Don'ts of Christmas

Here are some guidelines that we adhere to throughout the holiday season:

1. Do wear holiday gear.

2. Do something in the name of altruism, at least once.

3. Homemade gifts are for suckers - unless you have some sort of super talent.

4. Do use Christmas to your advantage as a parent; threaten your kids with no gifts until the cows come home - or until Christmas Eve, at which point you need a new tactic.

5. Sitting on Santa is not required. My kids never have and still flat-out refuse to sit on Santa's lap and I can't really blame them. There is something a tad creepy about sitting on an old guys lap in a mall.

6. Under no circumstances should you post a year wrap-up letter to anyone, except maybe your mom and dad, in case they missed something. Yes it may be a tad hypocritical for me to say that.

7. Drinking should not be confined to indoors. Whether we are caroling, tobogganing or on a Christmas light stroll, there is no better company than friends, family and a travel mug.

8. Don't get stressed over the holidays. It is a time for comfort and joy, not cursing and gesturing.

9. Do document the holiday season with a family photo, something along these lines:

About the Author

Me and Meg's picture

Leigh and Meg are sisters with six kids between them. They love laughing, and don’t care if you laugh at them or with them. They started their blog, Me & Meg, because they are excellent bad mothers, and want to brag about it.

Additionally, Meg can’t remember anything as she’s always partying and Leigh, well she has a pea size brain and can’t retain much. Meg drives a van which is totally dodgy, while Leigh drives an SUV - so much better. Needless to say when they go out they take Leigh's car. Furthermore, Leigh is very excited to be part of ModernMom.com. She thinks she is that much closer to meeting her DWTS favourite, Maks.

Cheers.
