Deliciously Dipped Caramel Apples

Apples and fall go hand in hand - and when it comes to Halloween, caramel covered apples are a staple in our home!

This is the perfect treat to make along with your kids. I guarantee you'll have just as much fun making them as you will eating them.

It's totally easy - you don't have to spend time prepping a ton of ingredients or need a lot of fancy equipment. In fact, you don't even have to have a candy thermometer. Let's face it, we're moms, not professional bakers. So if we can cut a corner here or there and have the end result turn out just as tasty, then I say GO FOR IT!

Everyone should have a caramel apple around Halloween. So delish!

Delightfully Delish Caramel Dipped Apples

Ingredients

  • 6 COLD Granny Smith or Red Delicious apples
  • 6 Lollipop or wooden sticks
  • 1 (14 oz) package of individually wrapped caramels - unwrapped
  • 2 Tablespoons of half & half
  • 1/2 Teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions

Place the lollipop sticks into the apples at the stem portion of the apple, making sure that you leave enough sticking out to be able to hold the apple to dip it into the caramel. Place apples in the refrigerator until caramel is melted and ready to use. The caramel will adhere to the apples when they are cold.

If you have a double boiler... great! If not, have no fear! Boil one to two cups of water in a sauce pan that is small enough to allow a heat-safe bowl to rest on top of it. Combine the caramels, half and half and vanilla extract in the bowl and using a wooden spoon, stir until all ingredients are melted and combined.

Once melted, gently dip the apples into the caramel and swirl it around until they are evenly coated. Place immediately on wax or parchment paper lined cookie sheet.

If you'd like to add toppings, roll them immediately after into chopped nuts, sprinkles, candy corn or even a crumbled up candy bar. Tip: they are even better once they've sat in the fridge for a few hours or even overnight!

Best of all, these tasty treats make fantastic gifts as well. Just wrap them in some cellophane and tie it up with a pretty ribbon!
