The Gunnar Challenge Wrap-Up

The Gunnar Challenge (GC) just finished. It is an eight week online program of personalized training and nutrition. The cost of the program was $99 and I got to try it out for free in exchange for providing a couple of posts about it, positive or negative. Well I have a whole ton of positive to say and a bunch of negatives, and sadly for me, the negatives are all about me.

Lessons I learned are that I should have done it with a friend. To try and do it by myself just wasn’t realistic, I need someone to meet at the gym or plan workouts with. Huge kudos to the GC team though, the below tweet exchange took place one Friday afternoon. Their response was almost instantaneous and I thought it was awesome.

They really have figured out every little detail from a shopping list for your daily meals to customized workouts based on your selection of ‘home’ or ‘gym’ and level of difficulty you think you can handle. They also throw in a Wild Card workout on Saturdays. There is a leaderboard so you can chart your progress against others if that motivates you and there is a weekly weigh-in reminder.

If you need motivational support, you can follow them on twitter or send them an email. I like the way they track food intake. You can follow their meal plans or you can input what you ate and it will tally your calorie count. Nutrition is such a huge part of weight loss that I must admit I was pleasantly surprised with how much focus they put on it, I was expecting only a personal training program.

In the end, if I were to take a do-over, I would do it with a friend and I would select the ‘gym’ option instead of ‘home’. Trying to workout at home just doesn’t work for me, it is too easy to skip. Which really makes no sense, but that’s me.
